Search Site Library for Inquisitor 2.1

I am in the process of compiling a set of search site presets for Inquisitor 2.1 to make it easy for users to add shortcuts for some of the more common search engines. This is the list so far:

General Search: A9, Google, MSN, Yahoo!
Images: Google Images, Flickr, Yahoo! Images
Audio & Video: Google Video, Odeo, Yahoo! Video
News: BBC, Google News, Yahoo! News
Blogs: Feedster, Google Blog Search, Technorati, Yahoo! Blog Search
Reference: Answers.com, Dictionary.com, Google Local, IMDB, Wikipedia
Shopping: Amazon.com, eBay

Now’s the time to make suggestions. If you think I’ve missed a site that would be useful to the average user, please post it in the comments and I’ll try to get it added. Thanks!

VT or MU please, prefer VT

MXTabs would be cool. There is a problem with the way you have it set up with %20 instead of +. You should have it so there is an option for what they use.

Jack...

Being able to do some sort of initial patent search would be very nice.

And Libraries, the National Library, or the Library of congress would also be very nice.

I don’t know if this is redundant, but there’s a new search that is driven by Google called Blingo (www.blingo.com) – basically it’s an engine that gives people the possibility of winning prizes for doing nothing more than searching. It’s becoming quite popular.

This is not an ad or spam, by the way. It’s been in the news a lot lately.

Amazon.co.uk, froogle.co.uk

What I’ve added

Mac OS X Hints
CocoaDev
CocoaBuilder
developer.apple.com
Google Images
Wikipedia

Dave...

In the same category as IMDB, I’d suggest allmusic…

Sören...

LEO en-de, LEO fr-de (limited use for most people)
AcronymFinder
RhymeZone

In fact, you may consider doing different sets of engines based on the user’s locale. For a German user, for example, Wikipedia-de may be more interesting than Wikipedia-en.

Jonathan...

Amazon.ca, Google.ca, etc–basically, all the local Canadian versions of the sites you’ve already got in there.

You could even use one local set over another (falling back to the default American sites in the case of a nonexistent local site) based on the user’s locale. NSLocalizedString, and all.

Magnus...

Yellow pages and public phone books. Since I live in Sweden you would probably not know about the ones I use, but here they are anyway:
hitta.se
eniro.se
On both sites I can search for phone numbers, addresses and maps.

Maybe you could provide an easy way for me to add them myself?

I think it would be useful to have the presets grouped by countries. Maybe not in 2.1 but sometime around 2.5 or 3.0, Inquisitor could get the country settings from OS X and preselect for example the German presets if the user told OS X that he or she is located in Germany.

This would for example include localized versions of Google-, Yahoo!-, Amazon- and eBay-Services, Blog Search by blogg.de, de.wikipedia.org, N24.de or tagesschau.de for news instead of BBC and GelbeSeiten.de or 11880.com for yellow pages.

Did I mention that Inquisitor is fabulous and would be even more if itself would be localized in a variety of languages? ;-)

Isaac...

A second vote for allmusic.

Joshua...

Macupdate.com and Versiontracker.com would be extremely helpful!

Simon...

A few I would use:
– as for reference, perhaps Dictionary.com, SparkNotes, Urban Dictionary
– The Economist, Reuters, CNN

Zach...

Some of the sites at Bartelby -such as Barlett’s Quotations, Gray’s Anatomy, World Factbook.

Also, an option to change the space delimeter to something other than %20.

computerdude33...

What about DashboardWidgets.com or Apple’s Dashboard site?

As a designer it would be great to use the inquisitor tool for images in

gettyimages – gettyone.com
photonica.com
corbis.com

I already did a link for getty in the old inquisitor
http://creative.gettyimages.com/source/classes/FrameSet.aspx?&UQR=lvatfv&pk=4&source=front&lightboxView=1&txtSearch=%@&chkLicensed=on&chkRoyaltyFree=on&selImageType=1

Ben...

Can anyone tell me how to make the default for inquisitor the UK pages only search of Google UK?

bluntman...

Versiontracker would be awesome :)
