Inquisitor 2.6

I’m pleased to announce the immediate release of Inquisitor 2.6, the ultimate search extension for your web browser. Inquisitor extends the standard web search field in your browser with as-you-type instant search results from Google and Yahoo! (new in 2.6), keyword suggestions, autocompletion, and alternate search site support. Inquisitor now supports the Camino browser in addition to Safari.

Inquisitor is totally free to try out and a mere €5 to register.

Fantastic. Also, for those that like nightly builds of Camino, it appears the April 22 build finally allows you to resize the search bar :)

Aaron...

All your software is AWSOME. Thanks for the development.

Anthony...

This may be a damn stupid request, but seeing as Inquisitor is one of my must-have apps (next to Acquisition and Newsfire), any chance you’re going to do a port for Omniweb?

A ton of us are now trying out the new beta for the 5.5 release (and digging it — the performance seems to top Safari, bookmark management is superior, and it saves “workspaces”), and the only missing at the moment is your wonderful app.

Here’s hoping…

There is no chance that OmniWeb will get Inquisitor. At this point, I’m pretty sure that even Camino was a waste of time.

Hi,

Camino support is fantastic. In fact, it is the only reason that I purchasd this program – I hardly ever use Safari. Please continue your support for Camino!

Mark...

Same here, I’m not a Safari user either.

Is there some way that Inquisitor could be made into a stand-alone program? Then a key-combo brings it up, you enter the search terms, select the result you want and open it as any other program does. Then you could use it with any browser you choose.

Aaron...

Bummer, another registered user torn between the features of Omniweb and the beauty that is Inquisitor. Guess I’ll have to settle for the web interface, then.

Stashie...

i love the small app, and have used it _a lot_ in safari (registered). any possibility that you can make it available for the opera 9.0 browser as well?

cheers!

Opera will never be supported.

Michael...

David.. what’s the probability of Inquisitor for Flock? Is there a way to make the Camino version work with Flock as Camino is a Mozilla browser?

The only browser that will be supported is Safari (as suggested, Camino support will not continue). Any other browser should use the Inquisitor web interface.

Christophe...

Shit, have just buy it because of camino support. Should have read the comments before I bought it :-)

Ben...

Hi,

I’m really eager to try out Inquisitor (at the recommendation of the wonderful Mr Hicks.

However, whenever I try to install, I get an error telling me it can’t be installed and I need to check my system permissions.

I’m not a ‘casual’ OS X user, and I know for sure all my permissions are set as they should be….

Any ideas? My 5 ‘E’s are waiting!

Thanks Muchly.

Ben

Philipp...

Camino support not continuing is actually quite a hit for me. I never liked Safari and will certainly not switch again. On the other hand, Inquisitor seems to be worth the 5€. Knowing however that all upcoming versions will be pretty much useless to me, it is something I need to reconsider.

Nonetheless: great job.

Ben...

David: Is it really the case that there are very few Camino users?

Every statistic I see says only 1% of Mac users are on Camino. It’s very much a marginal browser.

Carsten...

Inquisitor is great, i really love the app. But my prefered web browser, especially now that it is in beta 5.5 is OmniWeb, and i was wondering if there is any chance that Inquisitor will be available for OmniWeb?

thanks

Neal...

Is this a free upgrade for previous users? I downloaded and installed and now i says that i need to register it… please help.

Daniel...

Is there an easy way to disable inquisitor in Camino but keep it in Safari?

That’s fine that you’re not going to support Camino from here on out, but I hope there’s a way to remove it from one browser as it’s not working properly in the latest nightly builds.

Àlex...

Are you sure about giving up the support to Camino? Maybe only 1% of Mac users are on Camino as first option, but I am sure that there are more users who have it installed and use it as second option, for websites that resist the WebKit engine, etc…

I would also consider that for Safari there are other options, some of them free like AcidSearch, which do not exist for other browsers. I try to say that maybe the market is smaller, but with a better target, I think.

Sorry for my english and a question: Can I use it only in Camino and not in Safari?

Will...

David, I don’t mean to be rude but the fact that camino was a waste of time is exactly WHY omniweb would work from a business point of view. Camino users think everything should be like their browser: free. Omni users have already paid for superior functionality, why should kick-butt plugins be any different?

Will, it has nothing to do with conversion rates and everything to do with the fact that there are simply too few users of Camino and Omniweb.  They’re both great browsers, but not enough people use them to make them stand out.

Daniel...

David, is there any chance you can update inquisitor to take out camino support or post instructions on how to remove camino support from a release?

Currently, inquisitor does not work on Camino nightlies, and I’d love to be able to continue to use your product on Safari.

Claytron...

Well crap. I wish I would have read this thread before I bought inquisitor for Camino use. I can’t stand Safari. I really wish there was a larger base for Camino so that you could continue support of the nicest browser on OS X ;) Although I think I just might make my deafult home page the Inquisitor one. Very nice little web app there!!

Paul...

Can I offer a suggestion?

del.icio.us bookmarks. Permit the searching of your personal bookmarks collection. I am an avid user of del.icio.us and I believe that it would be a great addition to Inquisitor.

t...

Is there any way to install Inquisitor for Safari only? Inquisitor ruins the search toolbar in Camino Nightly builds. I can live without the Camino support, but I need to at least have Camino functioning in order to justify having this software installed for Safari. Unfortunately I can’t find anyway to disable Inquisitor in Camino and leave it enabled in Safari.

Chad...

Hey Paul,
If you go to the customize searches area of Inquisitor you can add search engines. Just go to your del.icio.us page, search for “foo” in your library, copy the link into the customize searches area in Inquisitor and replace “foo” with %@. Done.
